Driver Spotlight: 30 Years on the Road

June 26, 2026  ·  2 min read

For MVT driver William V., maintaining a healthy lifestyle on the road isn’t just a choice—it’s a commitment that requires determination, discipline, and consistency.

The Realities of Life on the Road

After nearly 30 years as a professional driver, spending six days a week away from home, William knows the unique challenges that come with life on the road. Time constraints, unpredictable schedules, limited access to healthy food, and opportunities for exercise are hurdles many drivers face daily.

“Some of the biggest challenges are the lack of time and facilities to do things in a healthier way,” William shares. “Preparing healthy meals, taking a long walk, riding a bike, or following a good exercise routine can be difficult when you’re on the road.”

Building Healthy Habits

Rather than letting these challenges dictate his health, William has established habits that keep him active and focused. His straightforward advice to fellow drivers is:
“Get out of the truck whenever possible.”
“Prepare your own meals.”
“Prioritize good sleep.”

To stay active, William dedicates at least 30 minutes every other day to exercise, alternating among weight training, walking, biking, and cardio. His truck serves as a mobile fitness center, equipped with a bicycle, dumbbells, resistance bands, a jump rope, and even a mini trampoline.

Nutrition on the Go

Nutrition is another area where William has made a conscious effort to improve his choices. He opts for home-prepared meals over truck stop food, often waking up early to make breakfast and pack lunch before hitting the road. After parking for the night, he frequently cooks dinner, ensuring that he nourishes his body properly.

Overcoming Sleep Challenges

Sleep can be particularly elusive for drivers. “It’s very challenging to get a good night’s sleep with all the noise from other trucks parked beside you and the constant schedule changes required to deliver freight,” William explains.
To combat this, he has developed routines to help him unwind, including reading before bed, stretching, and using a sleep mask when necessary.

Managing Stress through Movement

William emphasizes that movement is key to managing stress. “I manage stress mostly through exercise, especially cardio. Biking, running, and even listening to music while driving help me maintain my mental well-being.”

Support and the Role of Rolling Strong

William credits Rolling Strong for reinforcing the healthy habits he has cultivated over the years. “Rolling Strong has helped me a lot in creating good habits. My coaches have been fantastic, providing advice on meals, exercises, and proper techniques to avoid injuries.”

He also appreciates the wellness challenges and competitions, which serve as motivation to push himself further. “I think the competitions keep me sharp and encourage me to do a little more than usual.”

A Journey of Wellness

For MVT and Rolling Strong, William’s journey serves as a powerful reminder that wellness isn’t about perfection. It’s about making small, consistent choices that accumulate over time.

As he continues his work behind the wheel, William V. exemplifies that investing in health is one of the most crucial journeys a driver can undertake.
